Martin Patenaude is Director of Culinary Innovation and Co-Director of Branding at Locaal. By overseeing recipe creation and acting as Locaal’s spokesperson, Martin combines his love of fresh, local and seasonal products, his passion for recipe creation and his great talent as a communicator.
Martin’s awareness of the importance of agriculture began at a young age thanks to his grandparents, who owned a vegetable farm. He grew up in an environment where eating local food was the norm and where pride in savouring home-grown produce was an integral part of his lifestyle. He began working on his grandfather’s farm at 13, a benchmark moment where contact with fresh food of exceptional quality and exploring the variety of Quebec produce confirmed his growing interest in cooking.
After a year studying psychology in Montréal, it became very clear for Martin that his passion for cooking was his true calling. He decided to follow his dream and attended the École hôtelière de Sherbrooke, where he obtained his professional diploma in culinary arts while already working in the restaurant industry.
Martin returned to Montréal in 2007 and worked as an at-home private chef. He also taught cooking classes, which led him to discover a passion for teaching. At the same time, he began working for a large food chain and, shortly afterwards, became its corporate chef and spokesperson.
Locaal marks a turning point in Martin’s professional career: he has joined a company with strong values intent on showcasing local products and artisans. For Martin, his mission at Locaal is clear: to help people discover the richness of Quebec’s pantry in a committed, responsible, accessible and tasty way!
